Saturday's Scribbles

"Born in America
A long long long time ago!"

Good Saturday to you from our corner of the world where a steady rain is nourishing the parched soil.  We are expecting thunderstorms throughout the day, possibly small hail and high winds.  So far it has been a summer storm with rumbling and rain.  It is a good way to start the day.

Speaking of a good day, it is Joel's 77th birthday today and we are giving thanks for so many years of life for this man,  Yesterday for his birthday we purchased him a new phone....his old one is around ten years old so this was definitely an upgrade!  It has been a pretty easy switch which is a good thing!  We started discussing this idea of a new phone around two years ago soooooooooooo as you can see, it took awhile to accept the idea!  Ha...

Joel managed a couple of bike rides earlier in the day this week as the temps were in the high 80's every day. One ride was with a few people from Trinity Lutheran church....a 12 mile round trip with breakfast in between.  He continues to enjoy his recumbent bike for sure.  Thursday he met with a colleague at the local park.  He has been part of a colleague group for around 25 years now and they meet monthly.  Today he is wearing a shirt our oldest son gave him 27 years ago on his 50th birthday that says.........."Born in America.....a long, long, long time ago!"  The shirt is pretty frayed but he wore it to Gabby Grandpas this morning.

Joel was able to talk to 4 of 5 kids on Father's Day which was very nice. I had made Joel a rhubarb pie, his favorite.  He saved half of it for his birthday too.  We went to church outside and spent the rest of the day pretty low key. Our youngest had a birthday on Father's Day too.  Next week is our anniversary.  It all kind of bunches up towards the end of the month.....

I spent most of the week home, dealing with the neuropathy and balance issues this damaged nerve is producing.  Some days good..........like Monday when I had nearly zero symptoms and some days bad where I am sleeping sitting up on the sofa.  Okay then.  When it is a better day we take advantage of it.  Still walking daily and still mostly inside.  Bright sunlight is a bugger!  Enough said.

We have been watching some Jesse Stone movies this past week.  Tom Sellack is such a good actor in our opinion.  This series is kind of dark at times, but low key too.  There is really little to watch on TV anymore.  Seriously, just a lot of garbage.....not that we have an opinion about it!  We have been watching America's Got Talent some. Porch sitting draws us outside most days or nights for awhile.  It would be hard to live without a porch now, but expect we would adapt.

I have so little to write about today that comes to mind......

So, I am grateful today for my husband Joel, a faith-full man who loves the Lord, his family and friends, and the many congregations he has served.  Grateful for his positive attitude, laughter and joy.  Grateful for his energy and caring personality.  Grateful he is doing so well in body soul and spirit.  Grateful for some days being better than others for me, for friends who stand with us for breakthrough.  Grateful for rhubarb pies, pizza, and all that delights us.  Grateful for a new phone for my hubby.  Grateful for our wonderful porch ( and lack of mosquitos right now).  Grateful for old movies, phone calls to brighten days, texts and pictures to make us smile and stay connected, and the love and prayers of so many,

Enjoy your weekend!
