Simple Pleasures

If you wish to read more Spiritual Sunday posts, go to Spiritual Sundays.

My husband Joel has been home resting while he goes through the first few weeks of treatment for chronic Lyme Disease. Being out in nature is very healing for him, so he is spending a lot of his time sitting on our back deck or front porch.

Just this past week Joel was reading on the back deck when he noticed a hummingbird flitting all around the yard. Soon it found its way up onto a branch of our locust tree and he saw a very tiny nest in the tree. With our camera he was able to zoom in on the nest and watch the female hummingbird sit on her eggs. (this photo is magnified 8x).
Joel has spent a great deal of time observing and taking several photos of our resident feathered friend. What joy this tiny little bird has brought into his life during this difficult time. A true gift from a loving God.

Dear Lord,
We are giving thanks today for bringing us joy through nature, and for the simple pleasures that restore our balance and bring healing into our lives. Let us never tire of being a gentle observer of all that you have created.
In Jesus name,
Amen

How lovely. It reminds me of my dear mother in law who has shared with me her love of hummingbirds. She has feeders all the way around her huge cabin porch. I have so many precious memories when I was able to go there, of seeing some of God's most incredible creatures.

The old song says the best things in life are free. I think that is true. Love the picture of the humming bird. We had one build a nest on a windchime on our patio last year. We watched it for several days. One night we had one of our monsoon storms and the next day the bird was gone and we never saw it again. The nest was still there. That was sad. We also had one build a nest in one of our trees about 19 years ago right after we moved here. When we discovered it there were two baby birds in it.
I'm glad you shared with us today for Spiritual Sundays.

We had a hummingbird made a nest too in one of our dwarf trees in the backyard. My family and I got more excited when we saw little ones. I was sad when we found the nest empty one day and haven't seen them since.
It's amazing that through those little birds, we are reminded of His love in giving details to every creation He did. God bless you and have a great week!

Hi Jan Lyn
They are so tiny, and yet so mighty aren't they. Glad you enjoyed the post.

Love your post! TFS, I have dealt with a chronic EBV/fibromyalgia illness for a few years and it gets draining but you can't expect the way God shows his love and shares his heart during these times we've been forced to get off the roller coaster of life. I have gotten butterflies, cardinals and sparrows galore to help me out...I love feeding the birds.

Good words. Very encouraging. Thank you. I won't repeat what my wife, Charlotte said. She beat me to it. LOL.

Renee, I've been reading your last few posts, and want to tell you that that I am touched by all you say. You remind me of Catherine Marshall, who never lost faith and never gave up. I pray you and Joel will be healed of your disease. God bless you both.

Mary
Thank you for your prayers for Joel and I. And your comment about me reminding you of Catherine Marshall has really touched me deeply. I needed to hear this today. Thank you and thank you again.

Renee, we also have hummingbirds in our neighborhood - they are the cutest little things! It always amazes me that something so small and vulnerable and fragile looking can fly so well. They just zip through the air, unafraid! They have attitude too.
They inspire me so. When I worry, I only have to look at them and see that they don't worry - they just live and make the best of every moment.

May God give you & Joel this kind of confidence too at every moment of uncertainty and concern.

Blessings,
Malva

Thanks Malva for your blessings. I think hummingbirds are tough little creatures...today Joel watched the mom preaning and cleaning herself. He is really enjoying this tiny feathered friend.
